What the GM code tells you
GM is General Merit, as the abbreviations table in KEA's UGCET-2026 Information Bulletin expands it. Nothing follows the GM, so this is the plain General Merit column. Its Rural and Kannada-medium variants, GMR and GMK, are separate columns, and each needs its own 10-year study certificate.
In this site's verified KCET engineering figures General Merit is the hardest column to reach, not a lower tier: of 25,923 seats carrying both a general and a reserved closing rank, the general one was tighter in 25,921. Across 34,173 verified KCET engineering closing ranks transcribed from KEA’s own publications — 2024 Rounds 1 and 2, 2025 Rounds 1 to 3 and 2026 Round 1, each published separately for Rest of Karnataka and for 371(J) — there are 25,923 places where one college, branch, year, round and seat pool carries both a general-merit closing rank and a reserved-category one. The general column is the tighter of the two in 25,921 of them. There are exactly two exceptions, and both are Civil in Round 3 of 2025.
