It depends on the seat you are targeting. KCET is for government-quota seats and requires Karnataka domicile eligibility. COMEDK UGET is for private engineering college seats and is open to candidates from all states. JEE Main is needed for NIT Surathkal and other centrally funded institutions, and JEE Advanced for IIT Dharwad. Many candidates write more than one.

There are three main routes. Karnataka PGCET is used for government-quota seats in state colleges and has the lowest fees. KMAT Karnataka is accepted by over 190 private institutions. CAT is required for IIM Bangalore and accepted by several top private B-schools. Writing more than one widens your options.

No. MBBS and BDS seats in Karnataka are allotted on NEET UG, and any offer of an MBBS or BDS seat without NEET should be treated as fraudulent. Not every PCB course works that way: KEA’s UGCET-2026 information bulletin ranks B.Sc Nursing only on the PCB marks of its own CET, and Naturopathy & Yoga on the PCB marks of CET and the qualifying examination, in equal proportions.

Yes. COMEDK UGET, private university entrance tests and management-quota seats are open to candidates from all states. However, KCET government-quota seats have domicile and study requirements set out in the KEA notification each year.

Diploma holders in engineering or technology can enter the second year of B.E/B.Tech directly through the Karnataka Diploma CET (DCET), rather than starting from the first year.

Government-quota seats obtained through KCET or PGCET are heavily subsidised. The same course at a private, deemed or management-quota seat can cost many times more. This is why your rank directly affects what you can realistically afford.

They are the reservation category codes used in CET counselling — General Merit, Category 1, 2A, 2B, 3A, 3B, SC and ST, combined with rural, Kannada-medium and regional claim codes. Closing ranks differ substantially between them. Claiming a category requires the correct certificate at document verification.

State schemes such as post-matric scholarships and Vidyasiri are applied for through the Karnataka State Scholarship Portal.
