How we verify our numbers

Where each number comes from

• Cut-offs are transcribed from the official publications themselves — the Karnataka Examinations Authority’s round-wise allotment PDFs for KCET, and COMEDK’s published cut-off ranks for UGET — never from other education portals. Each row stores which publication it came from.
• Rankings are read from the NIRF category tables at nirfindia.org, with the source URL kept on every row. A rank awarded to a constituent college is never credited to its parent university.
• Fees come from the official KEA fee structure, and every figure is labelled with the quota it applies to — the same seat can cost roughly three times more through management quota, so a fee without its quota is not a fact.
• Placements are taken from NIRF data submissions and colleges’ own published reports, and the source is cited in the text beside the figures.

Two tiers, and every figure says which it is

Most numbers here are verified: we have read them in the official publication ourselves — a KEA cut-off PDF, an RGUHS list, a college’s own fee sheet — and the source is named beside the figure. That is 42,467 closing ranks and counting.

Some numbers are secondary: taken from an education portal or other published compilation because no official document was available to us for that course or year. These are labelled wherever they appear, and they are held to a lower standard of confidence for a concrete reason. While loading cut-offs we cross-checked a widely used portal against the official KEA PDF and found a closing rank listed as 8,598 where the official column reads 7,749 — a gap big enough to change a student’s counselling strategy.

So the two are never mixed silently. The college predictor uses only verified rows, because a prediction built on a secondary figure would carry an error a student cannot see. A secondary figure is there to tell you roughly where a college sits while we work on the official source — not to be relied on at a counselling deadline.

What we refuse to show

• No star ratings without reviews. A rating appears only once real, moderated student reviews exist for that college.
• Seat counts only where KEA published a matrix. The official matrices are scanned PDFs, so every figure is machine-read and then made to prove itself: each course row’s category columns must sum to the Total KEA printed beside it, and each college’s rows must sum to KEA’s own college total. A parse that fails either gate is not published. Outside those matrices a college’s sanctioned intake shows “—”, because no publication we can cite states it — sanctioned intake is carried only for dental, from the RGUHS affiliation notifications. A guessed intake number is worse than none.
• No estimated packages. Colleges without an official placement publication show a note saying so — not a plausible-looking figure.
• Ambiguity means omission. 9 cut-off rows we could not conclusively match to the official PDF are held out of the site’s tools entirely.

Which college pages we list

Karnataka’s official register has 5,462 colleges and this site holds a page for every one of them. Only 1,105 are submitted to search engines. The other 4,357 are readable, linked from their city and course pages, and open to anyone who follows a link — we simply do not ask Google to list them.

A page earns listing by carrying at least one figure you can check:

• a verified closing rank — traced to a KEA or COMEDK publication, not merely present in our database;
• an official fee, stored with the document it was read from;
• published seats, from a KEA seat matrix that passed both arithmetic gates described above;
• or a page readers have already clicked through to from a search result — a click we can measure is itself evidence the page answers something. Being shown in results is not enough on its own.

What does not earn it: existing in the register, or carrying a row that merely says a course is offered. That is a name, not an answer — no fee, no seat count, no closing rank, none of the columns you came for. Listing a page like that asks you to click something we know has nothing on it.

Nothing here is a judgement about a college, and none of it is permanent. The rule reads the data, so the day a college gains a verified cut-off, an official fee or a published seat count, its page lists itself on the next build. No one decides which colleges deserve visibility, and no college can buy its way onto the list — see below.

Money never moves a number

Colleges can pay for clearly labelled Sponsored listing slots. Sponsorship never changes a rank, a cut-off, a rating or a predictor result — those come from official publications, and a number money could move would be worthless to you.
