About GNM
General Nursing and Midwifery is the shorter route into bedside nursing: three taught years and a six-month internship at a school of nursing recognised by the Karnataka Nursing Council and the Indian Nursing Council. Graduates register as nurses and midwives and work as staff nurses from qualifying. It is not a dead end for anyone who later wants a degree — a GNM holder can convert through Post Basic B.Sc Nursing, a two-year course several Karnataka colleges run alongside their GNM programme.
