Bengaluru has more B.Com seats than any other city in Karnataka, and a wider spread of quality than most applicants expect. The colleges below all offer B.Com and all appear in our directory with verified accreditation data — but choosing between them is less about the ranking than about four things applicants routinely fail to check.

Autonomous, deemed, affiliated — the difference is not cosmetic

This is the distinction that changes your actual experience, and most applicants meet it for the first time in a prospectus.

Affiliated colleges follow the syllabus and examination calendar of their parent university — for most Bengaluru commerce colleges, Bangalore University or Bengaluru City University. Your degree is the university's.

Autonomous colleges set their own syllabus and conduct their own examinations, while the degree still comes from the affiliating university. In practice this means curriculum that updates faster and results that are published sooner.

Deemed universities award their own degrees entirely.

None of these is better in the abstract. Autonomy matters if you care about curriculum currency; the affiliating university matters if you plan to move between colleges or want the most widely recognised name on the certificate.

What to check before you pay

Admission route. Several of the colleges above admit through their own process rather than a common entrance test, with their own dates. Missing an institutional deadline while waiting for a state counselling round is a common and entirely avoidable loss.

The full fee, not the tuition fee. Tuition is one line. Ask for the total across three years including examination fees, and ask separately about hostel and mess if you are moving city. Where we hold an official fee figure it is on the college's page with its source named; where we do not, the page says "on request" rather than guessing.

Specialisation. B.Com is not one course. Programmes with a finance, accounting, professional or analytics stream lead to different places, and the choice is usually locked at admission rather than in the second year.

Professional course support. If you intend to do CA, CS or CMA alongside your degree — which a large share of Bengaluru commerce students do — ask specifically how the college handles the timetable clash. Some run integrated coaching; others do not, and doing both without support is genuinely hard.

One honest caveat: this article is about commerce colleges, and the verified cut-off data on this site covers KCET and COMEDK — engineering counselling.
