How KCET counselling works

The stages KEA runs between your rank and your seat — and where the binding rules actually live.

In short

KEA runs KCET counselling in five stages — document verification, option entry, mock allotment, the allotment rounds, then fee payment and reporting — and your category, verified at stage one, decides which cut-off column applies to you for all of them. Every stage below links the KEA page that governs it.

KCET (UGCET) 2026 — engineering & professional courses

Checked against KEA's UGCET 2026 portal on 23 September 2026. Stages link the official notification they were read from; dates always defer to the portal.

    Eligible candidates may add NEW options this round (pharmacy, medical and dental joined the same allotment). Log in to the Options Entry Portal at least once and SAVE — the brochure is explicit that never logging in means Round-1 options are NOT carried and you are excluded from Round-2 allotment. The window closed 9:00 AM, 13 August, as scheduled — no extension notice was on the portal when we re-read it that afternoon.

  10. DoneRound-2 MOCK allotment result (not the real allotment) — 17 August 2026, after 4:00 PM official source

    A rehearsal, explicitly. KEA’s notification says candidates CANNOT take admission on a mock-allotted seat, and that the seat shown here may or may not be the one the real allotment gives — precisely because options can still be changed until 20 August. College-wise, course-wise and category-wise cut-off ranks for this mock round were published alongside it.

    The window closed 9:00 AM, 20 August, as scheduled — both portals were re-read at 11:20 PM IST that night and carried no extension notice, nor anything dated 20 August at all. Until it closed, candidates who had seen where the mock landed them could add options, delete unwanted ones, change their order or modify them, and eligible candidates could enter medical and dental options. The real Round-2 allotment runs on whatever list stood at that deadline, NOT on the one the mock used.

  12. DoneRound-2 provisional allotment result (the real one) — 23 August 2026 official source

    Published 23 August under joint notice No. ED/KEA/ADMN/CR-04/2026, covering engineering, architecture, yoga & naturopathy, farm sciences, veterinary, B.Sc Nursing, B.Pharma, Pharm-D, BPT, BPO and allied health sciences. ⚠️ It is PROVISIONAL: KEA states a candidate must NOT report to the college shown on it, and options cannot be changed at this stage. After the final result, UGCET courses get CHOICE-1 or CHOICE-4 only — Choice-2 and Choice-3 are not available in Round 2. Choice-1 candidates who pay and report may still join Round 3 subject to conditions, per the same notification.

  13. DoneObjections on a specific Round-2 result — until 24 Aug 4:00 PM official source add to calendar

    Narrow, and worth reading precisely: an objection is for a candidate whose cut-off was checked and whose options were entered but who was allotted no seat. It goes to keauthority-ka@nic.in before 4:00 PM on 24 August. A seat missed because options were never entered is NOT grounds for one, and no objection reopens the option list.

  14. DoneFINAL Round-2 allotment result — 24 August 2026 official source

    KEA’s 27 August note states the final Round-2 result was announced on 24 August 2026 — engineering, architecture, yoga & naturopathy, farm sciences, veterinary, B.Sc Nursing, B.Pharma, Pharm-D, BPT, BPO and allied health sciences. ⚠️ This stage carried an undated placeholder for six days after the result had in fact published — the same hand-set-staleness failure the note above this list describes, arriving from the other direction.

  15. DoneChoice selection on the final Round-2 result — until 29 Aug 11:59 PM official source add to calendar

    Extended to 11:59 PM on 29 August by the 27 August note. UGCET courses get CHOICE-1 or CHOICE-4 only in Round 2 — Choice-2 and Choice-3 are not offered.

  16. DoneFee payment by Choice-1, and download of the Seat Confirmation Slip — until 31 Aug 2:00 PM official source add to calendar

    Payment must be made DURING BANKING HOURS — the note prints that in red, and a 2:00 PM cut-off is not a full working day. Only Choice-1 candidates pay at this stage, and only they download the Seat Confirmation Slip.

  17. DoneReporting at the allotted college with the Seat Confirmation Slip — until 31 Aug 6:00 PM official source add to calendar

    Choice-1 candidates only, carrying the Seat Confirmation Slip. KEA has directed every participating college to treat Saturdays, Sundays and gazetted holidays as working days for this window.

  18. DoneRound-3 vacant seats published — the pool options are entered against — 31 August 2026 official source

    KEA’s own heading calls this the “Third Round UnAllotted & Cancelled Provisional Seat Matrix as on 31-08-2026” — 29,236 seats across 242 colleges — seats nobody holds going into Round 3, including seats given up by candidates who cancelled. This is the list to build a Round-3 preference order against, and it is NOT the 7 August vacancy list further up this page, which was the pool for Round 2.

    ⚠️ Options entered in the earlier rounds are NOT carried over — KEA prints this in red, and a candidate who does not re-enter is simply not in the round. Two windows, one deadline: a candidate not allotted in Round 2, or who cancelled after paying the penalty, enters from 6:00 PM on 31 August; a candidate who already joined a college and wants an upgrade enters from 11:00 AM on 2 September. Both shut at 6:00 PM on 3 September.

  20. DoneRound-3 PROVISIONAL allotment result — 4 September 2026 official source

    Allotment run on merit against the options entered by 6:00 PM on 3 September, and published on 4 September for engineering, architecture, veterinary, farm sciences, pharmacy, B.Sc Nursing, yoga & naturopathy, BPT, BPO and allied health sciences. ⚠️ It is PROVISIONAL — the seat on it can still move, because KEA will re-run the round once the Choice-4 exits below are known. ⚠️ The notification comes and goes on KEA’s portal. It is still listed there, along with all 42 Round-3 provisional cut-off files published beside it, but the files answer only some of the time — all 43 have flipped between served and 404 together, as one block, on at least four separate occasions since 5 September; they answered normally on 11 September and were 404 again on the morning of the 12th. If the link fails, it is worth trying again later rather than treating the document as gone. We read and quoted it on 5 September while it was served, and the link is kept rather than deleted so the source of every statement here stays checkable.

  21. DoneCHOICE-4 on the provisional Round-3 result — offered in Round 3 for the first time, and not to everyone — 4 Sep → 5 Sep 5:00 PM official source add to calendar

    ⚠️ Only for candidates allotted a seat for the FIRST time in Round 3. Such a candidate who does not want the provisionally allotted seat may log in, select Choice-4, and leave this year’s UGCET counselling. A candidate who reported against a Round-2 seat and entered Round 3 for an upgrade is NOT permitted to give Choice-4 and must compulsorily take admission to the seat allotted. Choosing nothing is not neutral: after the final result there is no reason KEA will accept for not reporting, and cancelling an engineering seat then costs the government fee PLUS a five-times penalty, with seat-blocking referred for legal action. ⚠️ The notification this stage cites is served only intermittently by KEA, and has been since the evening of 5 September, after the window had already closed. It is still listed on the portal; if it returns 404, try again later.

  22. DoneFINAL Round-3 allotment result, after the Choice-4 seats are re-allotted — 7 September 2026 official source

    Published 7 September under No. ED/KEA/UGCET/ADALITHA-04/2026: the seats of candidates who took Choice-4 after the 4 September provisional result were withdrawn, the allotment re-run, and the final result published for engineering, architecture, veterinary, agricultural sciences, pharmacy, B.Sc Nursing, yoga & naturopathy, BPT, BPO and allied health science courses. The result is behind the candidate login on KEA’s portal; the notice is a one-page Kannada scan. What follows it is compulsory — see the two stages below.

  23. DoneRound-3 fee payment and seat confirmation slip download — 8 Sep → 10 Sep 2026 (no closing hour printed) official source add to calendar

    CLOSED. KEA printed 10 September as the closing date and no hour, and published no extension — the UGCET portal was re-read on the morning of the 11th and carried nothing new. The payment and confirmation-slip link had gone up on 8 September. A candidate who paid in an earlier round had it carried across rather than paying again. ⚠️ The seat confirmation slip downloaded here is what has to be produced at the college, and reporting is the stage below.

  24. DoneReport at the allotted college — compulsory after the FINAL Round-3 result — closed 11 September 2026, 6:00 PM official source add to calendar

    CLOSED at 6:00 PM on 11 September, and it was the last dated step on the UGCET third round. The 07-09 notice: candidates allotted a seat in the FINAL third-round result had to take admission at the college by that instant, with the fee paid and the seat confirmation slip downloaded. KEA published no extension — the UGCET portal was re-read on the mornings of the 11th and the 12th and carried 460 linked documents both times, none of them new. Requests for seat cancellation were not to be entertained for any reason, and KEA stated that legal action follows against a candidate who does not take admission. ⚠️ With this shut, the UGCET track has no future dated stage at all: KEA closed online allotment for engineering on 8 September, so there is no Round 4 to wait for and no casual-vacancy round has been notified.

  25. DoneAfter the FINAL Round-3 result there is no choice left, and cancelling costs five times the fee — in force from 7 September 2026 official source

    KEA states that once the third-round result is declared a candidate may not choose any option and must compulsorily take admission in the allotted seat; and that under CET-2006 rule 10(4) cancelling an engineering seat after the third round means paying the government fee PLUS a penalty of five times that fee to KEA. Narrower than it reads: the 4 September notice does offer Choice-4 on the PROVISIONAL result above — this is the position after the FINAL one. Two groups could not participate in the round at all: anyone who selected no choice after Round 2, and anyone who chose Choice-4 then — though such a candidate whose option list contains medical or dental options re-enters at UGNEET Round 2. KEA says the post-allotment schedule follows separately.

  26. DoneKEA closes online allotment for engineering: 24,283 engineering and 252 architecture seats go back to the colleges — 8 September 2026 official source

    No. ED/KEA/ADALITHA/C.R.04(BHA)/2026, dated 08-09-2026: the first, second and third rounds of online seat allotment for the Government-quota engineering seats were concluded on 7 September, and the seats still unallotted after the final round — 24,283 engineering and 252 architecture — are being returned to the respective colleges under the consensual agreement with the private-college associations (KUPECA, KRLMPCA, AMPCK) and AICTE’s last date for admissions. ⚠️ There is no fourth KEA round for these seats: a candidate without an allotment now deals with the college directly. The college-wise list is published on the KEA portal — two files, linked there on 8 September and confirmed live on the 10th: engineering (engineering_un_allotted_seatskannada.pdf) and architecture (architecture_un_allotted_seatskannada.pdf). The counts inside them are not loaded into this site’s seat-matrix pages yet.

UGCET Round-2 and UGNEET Round-1 allotments run SIMULTANEOUSLY this cycle (MCC’s national schedule forced the sync) — one joint KEA notification governs both.

The stages and dates below come from KEA’s own UGCET 2026 portal, which publishes a link for each one. Dates shift every year — treat these as the shape of the process, and read the current schedule from KEA before acting.

    Document verification

    You book an appointment through KEA's verification portal and have your originals checked. Your claimed category is verified here — and your category determines which cut-off column applies to you for the rest of the process.

    Option entry

    You enter college-and-course options in order of preference. This is the single most consequential thing you do: allotment walks your list from the top and stops at the first option your rank reaches.

    KEA runs the allotment on the options entered so far and shows what you would have received. Nothing is binding — it exists so you can fix a preference order that was not going to work, before it counts.

    The real allotment. You are allotted at most one seat, determined by your rank, your category and your option order.

    KEA offers a set of numbered choices that decide whether you keep the seat, try to improve on it, or leave. See the warning below — we do not restate these from memory.

    Fee payment and reporting

    Fees are paid through KEA's portal and you report to the allotted college by the stated date. KEA runs choice entry, fee payment and college joining through the same portal link.

On the choices after allotment, read KEA and nobody else

After allotment KEA asks you to pick one of several numbered choices, and they differ in whether you keep the allotted seat while trying for a better one. Pick the wrong one and you can give up a seat you were holding.

KEA publishes these rules in its official FAQ on option entry and mock seat allotment. That document is a scan, and we could not extract and verify its text — so rather than restate rules we have not read, we are sending you to the source. Every site that paraphrases them from memory is guessing at the most expensive decision in the process.

Where preference order is won

Allotment reads your list top-down and stops at the first option your rank can reach. That means a list ordered by what you actually want costs you nothing — putting a dream college first does not damage your chances at the realistic one below it.

What does damage you is a short list. Every option you leave off is a seat you cannot be given, and candidates routinely enter a handful of famous names, miss all of them, and go unallotted in a round they could have converted.

Order by preference, go long, and check each entry against the closing rank it actually had last year — in your category, not General Merit.
