How COMEDK counselling 2026 works

Registration, document verification, a mock round and four allotment rounds — and the four decisions that decide whether you keep your seat.

COMEDK UGET counselling is fully online: register and pay ₹2,000, upload documents for verification, fill choices, then up to four allotment rounds — with the surrender and exit rules deciding whether your fee and seat survive each one.     Reporting at the college by 24 Aug 12:00 noon. Seat cancellation ran 18 Aug 4:00 PM → 24 Aug 3:00 PM and is closed. ⚠️ COMEDK states there is NO seat-cancellation option during or after Round 4 — a seat allotted in Round 4 must be joined.

    Published today, alongside the Round-4 cut-off ranks and the vacant-seat list after allotment. This is COMEDK’s last engineering round: a candidate not allotted here leaves COMEDK counselling and is refunded the fee paid to COMEDK.

    ⚠️ There is NO seat-cancellation option during or after Round 4 — COMEDK says so in terms, and a seat allotted here must be joined. Anyone first allotted in Round 4 gets Accept & Freeze or Reject & Upgrade; an Accept & Upgrade holder gets Accept & Freeze only, and a higher option allotted in Round 4 cancels the earlier seat automatically.

    Accept & Freeze candidates only, with the printouts COMEDK lists. COMEDK advises checking the college’s own working hours before travelling — the window is a week, the college counter is not.

    Published today, with the cut-off ranks and the post-allotment vacant-seat list notified together. Architecture runs its own schedule, a round behind engineering, and this round covers GM seats only.

    Reporting at the college runs to 4 Sep 2:00 PM. Unlike engineering Round 4, architecture Round 3 DOES have a cancellation window — 2 Sep 2:00 PM → 4 Sep 5:00 PM — which Round-1 holders may also use. COMEDK has published no 2026 architecture Round-4 schedule; the block on its page is still last year’s.

    Candidates allotted in Round 1, and Kalyana-Karnataka candidates allotted in Round 2, may also cancel during this Round-3 window. It closes three hours after the fee deadline and two hours after reporting.

    Ran as printed and closed at 2:00 PM on 8 September. This site would not call it open while comedk.org was unreachable, and what settled it is the Round-4 allotment itself: the cut-off ranks and vacant-seat lists published on 9 September, each dated inside its own header. A fresh choice list for architecture Round 4, separate from the engineering rounds, which finished on 8 September.

    CLOSED at 12:00 noon on 11 September, the instant COMEDK printed, with no extension — its home-page banner has itself moved on from this window to reporting. The allotment result went up on 9 September, with the cut-off ranks and the seats left vacant after it published together. A candidate holding “Accept & Upgrade” or “Reject & Upgrade” who was allotted a seat in Round 4 had only Accept & Freeze left and must report to that college; a candidate allotted for the first time in Round 4 could Accept & Freeze or Reject & Withdraw; a “Reject & Upgrade” candidate allotted nothing leaves COMEDK counselling and is refunded the fee paid. ⚠️ Reporting is a separate deadline three hours later and is the last step left — the stage below.

    CLOSED at 3:00 PM on 11 September, three hours after the fee window above, with no extension — COMEDK’s home page was re-read at 4:18 PM and carries the same Round-4 table and the same banner it did at 2:05 PM. Only candidates with “Accept & Freeze” were to report, and strictly within the printed times: COMEDK warned that a candidate outside them may lose the allotted seat. Failing to join and continue at the allotted college forfeits the whole fee paid at COMEDK level and carries a penalty of five times that fee. ⚠️ This was the last dated step in COMEDK counselling for 2026 — engineering has no Round 5 and architecture has finished Round 4. Anything further would be a fresh COMEDK notification.

B.Arch & B.Planning run separately: Round-1 cut-off ranks and post-allotment vacant seats were notified 12 August 2026, and the seats vacant at the beginning of Architecture Round 2 were notified 18 August 2026.

Everything on this page is taken from the official COMEDK counselling process document (COMEDK Counselling Process Quick Guide, Version 1.0, notified 30 May 2026). Where that document is silent, so are we. Schedules change — read the current version before you act on anything here.

What is COMEDK counselling?

COMEDK counselling is the online seat-allotment process for COMEDK UGET, and a separate step from the entrance test. It allots engineering seats of only two kinds, General Merit and KKR (Kalyana-Karnataka Region). You register through your existing COMEDK application login, pay a non-refundable ₹2,000 counselling fee and upload your documents — and only a status of Document Approved lets you fill choices.

A mock allotment comes first and binds nothing. Then four rounds run: choice filling in Round 1 is mandatory, and after each allotment you choose Accept & Freeze, Accept & Upgrade, Reject & Upgrade or Reject & Withdraw — the decision that settles whether you keep the seat and stay in for the next round. Round 4 has no exit: a seat allotted there must be accepted. The fee is paid to COMEDK when you make your decision, not later at the college.

1. Register and pay the counselling fee

Counselling is a separate step from the entrance test. You register through your existing COMEDK application login and pay a counselling registration fee of ₹2,000, which the document states is non-refundable.

Only engineering seats of two types go through this counselling: General Merit and KKR (Kalyana-Karnataka Region). There is no other reservation pool in COMEDK counselling — which is why our COMEDK cut-off pages carry only those two categories, while KCET carries eight.

2. Upload documents and wait for approval

You upload scanned documents and COMEDK verifies them. Your status appears in the Document Upload tab of your login, and only one status lets you continue.

The 12-hour resubmission window is the single most time-critical thing in the whole process. Check your login daily rather than waiting for an email.

3. Mock round, then four real rounds

Before Round 1 there is a mock allotment: you fill preferences, COMEDK shows what you would have been allotted, and you can then change your preferences. Nothing is binding.

Then four rounds run. Choice filling in Round 1 is mandatory to stay in the process, and whether you are eligible for Rounds 2, 3 and 4 depends entirely on the decision you took in the round before.

4. The four decisions — the part that costs seats

After each allotment you choose one of four options. Two of them sound alike and behave completely differently.

Accept & Freeze

You are satisfied and will report to the allotted college. You leave counselling here, download the allotment letter and fee receipt, and report in person by the date on the letter.

Accept & Upgrade

You are satisfied but want to try for a higher preference. If a higher option is allotted next round, the earlier seat is cancelled automatically. If not, the earlier seat stays yours. This is the safe way to keep trying.

If you take no decision at all on a Round 1 allotted seat, the document is explicit that you are not considered for further rounds. Doing nothing is itself a decision, and the worst one.

5. Round 4 is different

In Round 4 you do not get the option to cancel your seat or exit counselling. If you are allotted a seat you must accept it and report to that college, and the fee paid is not refunded if you do not join.

That makes your Round 3 preference list the last one you can fill casually. Anything you are unwilling to actually attend should come off the list before Round 4.

6. What you pay, and when

You pay a single Total Fee to COMEDK, made up of the tuition fee plus “other fees”, at the time you make your decision — not later at the college.

If you upgrade to a college with a higher total fee, you pay the difference when you make that decision. If the new college costs less, the document states the excess is refunded after counselling completes.

On the published limits: the upper annual tuition fee agreed between the State Government and the college association was ₹3,02,000 or ₹2,15,000 a year, whichever the institution opted for. Institutions may collect “other fees” of up to ₹20,000 a year, collected by COMEDK. Colleges with special skill labs may charge a further ₹10,000–₹20,000 a year where approved by VTU, plus applicable university fees, at college level.

Before you fill preferences

Preference order is the whole game, and it is worth building it against last year’s actual closing ranks rather than reputation.
