Finished PUC and unsure what comes next? Here is a structured overview of the options available across Karnataka.
The hard part of choosing after PUC is not the shortlist. It is that each route runs on its own entrance exam with its own calendar, and several Karnataka windows close before PUC results are announced. Miss a registration and no amount of marks reopens it.
This guide maps the routes against what this site actually holds: 64 courses across 18 streams, with 668 course listings recorded across 258 Karnataka colleges. The college counts below are what this directory records, not a census of the state.
Start from the exam calendar, not the course list
Work backwards. Pick three or four plausible courses, list the entrance exam each needs, then put every registration deadline in one place. That ordering is what prevents the most common and least recoverable mistake of the whole year.

After Science, PCM
Engineering is the dominant route and by far the best-covered: B.E/B.Tech appears at 208 colleges in this directory, which is why the cut-off data here is deepest for it. Two separate tests matter — KCET for government-quota seats and COMEDK for private ones — and sitting both is normal.
Beyond engineering: B.Arch through NATA (4 colleges here), B.Sc in a pure science discipline (23), BCA (16), and B.Des through UCEED or NID DAT (7). After Science, PCB
The NEET-based routes are MBBS (24 colleges here) and BDS (6), plus AYUSH courses — BAMS and BHMS each appear once in this directory. KEA's 2026 state-quota registration notification covers MBBS, BDS and AYUSH.
Alongside those, and not requiring NEET: B.Sc Nursing (21 colleges here), B.Pharm (9), BPT physiotherapy (9), allied health sciences (4), and B.Sc Agriculture or Horticulture (2 each). These are frequently treated as consolation routes and should not be — nursing and allied health have their own labour markets and their own progression paths.

After Commerce
B.Com remains the volume choice (27 colleges here), with BBA (18) and BCA (16) alongside it, and M.Com (19) as the common continuation. Professional qualifications — CA, CS, CMA — run on their own institute examinations rather than through college admission, so they can be pursued in parallel with a degree rather than instead of one.

After Arts
B.A is the base route (20 colleges here), with M.A (14) and MSW (6) as continuations, BJMC for journalism and media (6), and law through either the five-year integrated BA LL.B via CLAT (10) or a three-year LL.B after graduation (6).
Two things worth knowing before you commit
Fees vary by route, not just by college. The same seat at the same private engineering college is priced very differently depending on whether it came through KEA counselling or management quota. Our fees guide explains the mechanism, and the pattern holds well beyond engineering.
Check what is funded before you rule a course out on cost. Several state and central schemes go unclaimed each year simply because nobody applied in time — our scholarships guide lists the main ones and where they are applied for.

- Shortlist three or four courses that fit your stream and your marks.
- For each, find the entrance exam on our exams page and open the official site linked there.
- Write down every registration deadline, then register for everything plausible — options cost little, absence costs the year.
- Once results are out, build preference lists against real closing ranks, not reputation, using the cut-off tables and predictor.
