What happens if I get a seat and pick no choice at all?

The brochure is blunt: an allotted candidate must select one of the four choices, and one who selects none loses eligibility for the further rounds. Not deciding is itself a decision — the worst one.

I was not allotted anything in Round 1. Do I need to pick a choice?

No — candidates with no allotment have no choice to make; the brochure carries them forward with their existing options. But you MUST still log in to the Options Entry Portal at least once in the next round’s window and save: the brochure treats a candidate who never logs in as not interested, and excludes them from that round’s allotment.

What exactly does Choice-2 do?

Choice-2 holds your allotted seat while trying for something you ranked HIGHER. Only higher-order options — those entered above the allotted one — are considered next round (the brochure's example: allotted option 123 of 180, then options 1–122 are in play). In short

KEA restricts the choice set round by round, and it has changed mid-season before. The four choices are explained in full below; which of them you are actually offered is on the KCET counselling tracker, where every stage carries the official notification it was read from.

The rules below are read from the KEA Seat Allotment Brochure 2026 (§14, pages 24–28 — the choice chapter) and the 07-08-2026 joint notification. Where a dated notification changes a brochure rule for a specific round — and this round it does, twice — the notification governs.

The four choices, exactly

Choice-1 — “This seat. Done.”

The allotted seat is 100% satisfactory; you want no change. Pay the fee, download the Confirmation Slip, report to the college with originals (plus two sets of photocopies), clear Online Face Recognition with a WhatsApp OTP — and note the admission order is downloaded by the college on its portal, not by you. Admission counts as complete only after every step. Brochure rule: no further rounds afterwards. This cycle’s exception: the 07-08 notification lets Choice-1 reporters join Round 3 on an undertaking, subject to conditions.

Failing to pay, download the slip, or report after picking Choice-1 = excluded from further rounds and the paid fee is forfeited.

Choice-2 — “Hold this seat; try only my higher preferences.”

You keep the allotted seat as a floor. Next round considers only higher-order options — the ones you ranked above the allotted option (allotted #123 of 180 → options 1–122 stay in play; they can be reordered or deleted but the floor is safe). If something higher lands, the held seat auto-cancels into the pool and the new seat is compulsory; if nothing lands, the held seat is yours. KEA does not offer Choice-2 in every round — the round tracker says which are open now.

Choice-3 — “Cancel this seat; fresh attempt.”

Not satisfied: the allotted seat is cancelled — not held — and no fee is payable on it. After logging in and giving consent, your full option list (minus the cancelled seat) reopens for modification, reordering and deletion. Whatever the next round allots on merit is then the seat you take. Also not offered in every round — check the round tracker for the one you are in.

Choice-4 — “I’m out.”

Exit the counselling process without taking the allotted seat. In rounds where KEA narrows the set to two, this is the only alternative to Choice-1 — and it has also been offered on a PROVISIONAL result, restricted to candidates allotted for the first time. The notification for each round names exactly who may use it.

The rules people learn the hard way

Silence forfeits. An allotted candidate who picks no choice loses the further rounds (brochure §14.3).
No allotment ≠ no action. Unallotted candidates carry forward automatically — but only if they log in once in the window (§14.8, §14.10).
Everything is online. Challan, payment, confirmation slip, admission order — no visit to KEA is needed after a normal allotment (§14.4).
Options don’t grow in later rounds — delete and reorder only — except when the seat matrix itself grows (§14.11). That exception does happen — it applied in Round 2 of UGCET 2026, in writing — so read the round’s own notification rather than assuming.

Which document is which, after you are allotted a seat

The admission order and the Seat Confirmation Slip are not the same document, and only one of the two is yours to download. Here is what arrives, in order, and who produces each.

The verification slip. Before any allotment, and before option entry. You download it yourself from KEA’s verification-slip portal. Its QR code is one of the two ways to sign in to option entry; the other is your CET number and an OTP.
A mock allotment result, in the cycles that have one. This is not an allotment. UGCET Round 2 and UGNEET Round 1 both had one in 2026 under a single joint KEA notification, and that notification says no admission can be taken on a mock-allotted seat and that the seat it shows may not survive the real allotment. Options stayed open after it.
The allotment result. KEA publishes it; you read your own on CAP. In both 2026 rounds this site tracked — UGCET Round 2 and UGNEET Round 1 — a provisional result came first and a final result followed an objection window. Read the round tracker for the round you are actually in.
The challan and the fee. Only Choice-1 pays; Choice-3 cancels the seat and pays nothing on it. Brochure §14.4 puts challan, payment, confirmation slip and admission order online — no visit to KEA is needed after a normal allotment. Online is not any hour: KEA’s round notices print in red that payment falls within banking transaction hours, and the portal’s closing time is not a promise your bank will still clear it.
The Seat Confirmation Slip. Choice-1 candidates download it once the fee is paid and carry it to the college when reporting. This is the document in your hand on reporting day.
The admission order. Last, and not yours to download. The brochure says the college downloads it on its own portal, not you. KEA’s UGNEET-2026 e-Information Bulletin says the same for the third (mop-up) round, and sequences it there: after face recognition and the WhatsApp OTP clear.

The brochure counts admission as complete only after every step, so no one of these is the proof on its own.

Who keeps the original admission order — we cannot tell you

§19 clause VIII of KEA’s UGCET-2026 Information Bulletin refuses a cancellation unless you return the original admission order issued by KEA, the original bank challan and the original verification slip. KEA issues it, the college downloads it, and a candidate who cancels must produce the original. Demanding all three back reads as though you hold all three — but no KEA document this site has transcribed says how the admission order gets from the college’s portal into your hands. Settle that with your college on reporting day, not on the day you cancel.
