Every seat KEA allots through KCET counselling is a government seat — in government, university, aided and private un-aided colleges alike — at a government-fixed fee: ₹47,100 a year in a government college, ₹1,20,320–₹1,30,320 for a KEA seat in a private college. SNQ, 371(J) and the income-based fee exemption can lower it further, and each runs on one RD-numbered certificate.
What a government seat actually is
- Admission runs under the Karnataka Selection of Candidates for Admission to Government Seats in Professional Educational Institutions Rules, 2006 — the bulletin states the Rules prevail over everything else.
- The seats sit in Government, University, Private Aided and Private Un-Aided institutions — the bulletin’s own list. A KEA seat at a private college is a government seat at the government fee, not a “management seat with extra steps”.
- Allotment is online, in rank order, against the government-issued seat matrix — options entered on the KEA portal. The college’s part comes at document verification, not in deciding who gets the seat.
- Eligibility runs through the bulletin’s clauses (a)–(o); the everyday one, clause (a), rests on the prescribed seven years of study in Karnataka including 10th or 2nd PUC. Category reservation applies only under clauses a, b, f, h, j, k, l and o.

Annual fee for a seat allotted through KEA counselling (General Merit), per the Karnataka Examinations Authority provisional fee structure for 2026-27, dated 10 July 2026. It includes university and other prescribed fees. SC/ST candidates with family income up to ₹10 lakh pay nil, and Category-1 candidates up to ₹2.5 lakh pay a reduced fee. Un-aided colleges fall into two tiers (₹1,20,320 or ₹1,30,320) which KEA does not publish college-wise, so the lower tier is shown. A COMEDK or management-quota seat at the same college costs considerably more and is set separately.

The bulletin lists the institutions these seats sit in: Government, University, Private Aided and Private Un-Aided colleges — so a KEA seat in a private college is still a government seat, at the government-fixed fee.
- What does a government seat cost per year?
- Per the KEA provisional fee structure (2026-27, dated 10 July 2026): ₹47,100 in a government college, ₹56,500 at UVCE, and ₹1,20,320–₹1,30,320 for a KEA-quota seat in a private un-aided college (two tiers KEA does not publish college-wise). Government Mechanical, Civil, Automobile, Textile and Silk Technology branches are cheaper still at ₹29,985. SC/ST candidates under ₹10 lakh income pay nothing. The figures include university and other prescribed fees.
- Can the fee go lower than that?
- Yes, three published ways. SNQ waives the full government tuition fee on 5% extra seats for any candidate — including General Merit — with family income under ₹8 lakh. SC, ST and Category-1 candidates within income limits pay a reduced or nil fee (income certificate with RD number required). And all eligible candidates with income under ₹8 lakh should obtain the income certificate to claim fee exemption benefits, per the bulletin.

- The bulletin defines eligibility clauses (a) through (o) — the common one, clause (a), rests on the prescribed seven years of study in Karnataka including 10th or 2nd PUC.
