Defence

A parent is serving Defence personnel with a Karnataka connection.

In short

The Defence special category is for the son or daughter of Defence personnel who qualify for Government seats under domicile clauses (e), (f) or (g) — a parent who worked in Karnataka during your PUC, declared Karnataka as hometown when joining service, or served here and is now posted to a disturbed area. Of the seats reserved for defence, 10% are further reserved for children of defence personnel of Karnataka origin under clause (f).

Everything below is transcribed from the KEA UGCET-2026 Information Bulletin (English), 17 January 2026 (§12(d)). KEA verifies every claim — this page cannot. Where the bulletin is silent, so are we.

Who qualifies

  • Son or daughter of Defence personnel eligible under domicile clause (e): a parent who worked continuously in Karnataka for at least one year during your two-year PUC / 11th–12th study.
  • Or under clause (f): a parent who declared a place in Karnataka as hometown at the time of joining service.
  • Or under clause (g): a parent who served at least a year in Karnataka and is now posted to the disturbed areas of Jammu & Kashmir or the North-East, with the family permitted to continue staying in Karnataka.
  • “Defence personnel” here includes personnel of Civil GT COYS ASC who were Civilian Class III or Class IV Government servants, and Border Roads Organisation personnel (Notification ED 189 TGL 94, 29-07-1994).

The certificate, and who issues it

  • Clause (e): an employment certificate from the parent’s Controlling Office, in the prescribed format, showing the period worked in Karnataka.
  • Clause (f): a certificate from the Record Office of the Defence Unit, in the prescribed format, stating the parent declared a place in Karnataka as hometown at the time of joining.
  • Clause (g): a certificate from the Controlling Office showing the Karnataka period, the present place of posting, and that the family is permitted to stay in Karnataka.

How KEA verifies it

The prescribed Defence certificate for your clause is mandatory — without it, the bulletin states the candidate is not allowed for certificate verification or for later allotment under Defence.

How many seats?

The bulletin states that 10% of the seats reserved for defence personnel are reserved horizontally for children of defence personnel of Karnataka origin (candidates under clause (f)). It does not print the overall size of the defence reservation itself — that is set by Rule 9 of the CET-2006 Admission Rules, so confirm the overall share against KEA before you rely on it.

What KEA actually put on the table: 28 Defence seats in the engineering seat matrix for Round 2, published 7 August 2026.

That is the count for one round of one stream, not the size of the reservation — a second-round matrix shows what remained after Round 1 allotment, with surrendered seats added back. It is published here because it is a real figure from an official document, which the percentage is not. KEA UGCET-2026 Second Round Provisional Seat Matrix, Engineering (published 07-08-2026).

The domicile clause it rests on

This category is claimed together with a KEA eligibility clause — the clause is what makes you a Karnataka candidate; the special category is the horizontal reservation on top.

Every clause below asks for

  • SSLC / 10th standard marks card
  • 2nd PUC / 12th standard marks card
  • Clause EMy parent is defence personnel who served in Karnataka during my PUC

Son or daughter of defence personnel who worked continuously in Karnataka for at least one year during the candidate’s two-year PUC / 11th–12th study period; the candidate studied and passed the qualifying examination in Karnataka.

Under Clause E caste reservation (SC, ST, Category-1, 2A, 2B, 3A, 3B) cannot be claimed, even with a valid caste certificate — the bulletin lists it among the clauses where it does not apply.

    Also under Clause E

    • Candidate’s study certificate for 2nd PUC or equivalent in Karnataka
    • Parent’s employment certificate from the Controlling Office, stating the period worked in Karnataka
  • Clause FMy parent is serving defence personnel who declared Karnataka as hometown

Son or daughter of serving defence personnel who, at the time of joining, declared a place in Karnataka as hometown. Domicile proof comes from the AG’s branch (Army HQ) / integrated HQ of MoD for officers, or the Record Office for JCOs/OR.

The qualifying examination may have been passed anywhere in India — the Karnataka connection is the parent’s hometown declaration, not where you studied.

Under Clause F you may also claim caste reservation (SC, ST, Category-1, 2A, 2B, 3A or 3B) — the bulletin lists it among the clauses where caste reservation applies.

    Also under Clause F

    • If claiming reservation: caste / caste-income certificate with RD number from the concerned Tahsildar — Form D (SC/ST), Form E (Category-1), Form F (2A, 2B, 3A, 3B)
    • Certificates must be in the CANDIDATE’s own name; SC/ST/Cat-1 add an income certificate to claim fee exemption
    • Parent’s hometown declaration certificate made at the time of joining service, from the respective MoD branch or Record Office
  • Clause GMy parent served in Karnataka and is now posted to a disturbed area

Son or daughter of defence personnel who served at least one year in Karnataka and is posted to the disturbed areas of Jammu & Kashmir or the North-East, with the family permitted by Defence Authorities to continue staying in Karnataka; the candidate passed the qualifying examination in Karnataka.

Under Clause G caste reservation (SC, ST, Category-1, 2A, 2B, 3A, 3B) cannot be claimed, even with a valid caste certificate — the bulletin lists it among the clauses where it does not apply.

    Also under Clause G

    • Candidate’s study certificate for 2nd PUC or equivalent in Karnataka
    • Parent’s service certificate from the Controlling Office showing the Karnataka period, plus the certificate permitting the family to stay
