An engineering degree keeps three routes open at once: a specialised M.Tech, an MBA into management, or an MCA if you came through a non-computing branch. In Karnataka all three are admitted through PGCET, which is the exam most graduates underestimate.
What to know before choosing
- 1Karnataka PGCET admits to M.Tech, MBA and MCA in the state’s own colleges. It is the route most engineering graduates in Karnataka actually take, and this site holds 884 verified PGCET closing ranks across 137 colleges.
- 2GATE is the national alternative for M.Tech and carries a stipend at IITs, NITs and IISc — a different competition from PGCET, not a harder version of it.
- 3CAT, KMAT, CMAT and MAT are the MBA routes. KMAT is Karnataka’s own and is accepted by a large share of Bengaluru’s management colleges.
- 4An M.Tech is a specialisation; an MBA is a change of track. Which one pays better depends entirely on the college, and this site does not publish salary claims it cannot trace to a published source.
