PUC Science (PCM / PCB)
Science is the widest of the three PUC streams — it keeps engineering, medical, pure sciences and computing all open. Which of them you can pursue depends on whether you took Mathematics, Biology, or both.
What to know before choosing
- 1PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) opens engineering, architecture, B.Sc and BCA. Admission runs through KCET, COMEDK or JEE Main.
- 2PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) opens MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, B.Sc Nursing, pharmacy and allied health. NEET UG is compulsory for almost all of these.
- 3Allied Health Sciences is the widest of the PCB routes and the least known — medical laboratory technology, imaging, anaesthesia, dialysis, optometry, cardiac care and respiratory therapy are all admitted through KEA on the same rank list, and this site holds 2,457 verified closing ranks across them.
- 4A seat in MBBS or B.Sc Nursing is not the only nursing or pharmacy route: GNM, D.Pharm and B.Sc MLT admit at lower ranks and are recognised qualifications in their own right.
- 5Taking both Mathematics and Biology keeps every option open, which is why many Karnataka students choose PCMB.
- 6Science students can also switch to commerce or arts degrees such as B.Com, BBA or BA — the reverse is not usually possible.
